County Commissioners unanimously reject Ingles rezoning request! Henderson County commissioners unanimously rejected the Ingles rezoning request before an overflow crowd at West Henderson High School Wednesday night. Rugby Neighbors coordinator Ron Swartzel received a standing ovation from the anxious crowd as he outlined the objections of the community. Twenty speakers added their personal comments, also strongly weighted against the rezoning proposal. Discussion among the commissioners was very brief, with Commissioner Larry Young making the motion to reject the rezoning request. The vote was 5 to 0 to turn down Ingles request. What is Rugby? Rugby is a beautiful rural community located between Hendersonville and Mills River, North Carolina. Mostly residential, Rugby consists of more than 22 neighborhoods along North and South Rugby Roads, and along Haywood Road from the French Broad River to the Hendersonville city limits. Who are Rugby Neighbors? Rugby Neighbors is an informal coalition of area residents working together to help shape the future of our community. Since 2001, representatives from 22 neighborhoods have networked together to help prevent zoning changes which would destroy the character of our community. Why do we need a website? Today's hot issue is preventing big-box development at "Rugby Crossroads" - the heart of our community. But tomorrow, another large developer may try something even worse.
